Use iCloud Sync to access your Sets on Mobile and other devices

iCloud Sync allows Typinator to synchronize your abbreviations between your Mac and iOS devices. This is required if you want to use the Typinator iOS keyboard or keep your abbreviation sets synchronized across devices.

Requirements

Before enabling iCloud Sync in Typinator, please verify the following 4 requirements.

Requirement 1: iCloud must be enabled on your devices

Make sure iCloud and iCloud Drive are enabled on both your Mac and your iOS device.

On Mac

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Click Apple ID at the top
  3. Select iCloud
  4. Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled

On iOS

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your Apple ID at the top
  3. Tap iCloud
  4. Ensure iCloud Drive is enabled

Requirement 2: Use the same iCloud account

Both devices must be signed in with the same Apple ID.

If different iCloud accounts are used, Typinator cannot synchronize your data.

You can verify this here

Mac
System Settings → Apple ID

iOS
Settings → Apple ID (top of the screen)

Requirement 3: Make sure enough iCloud storage is available

iCloud Sync requires available storage in your iCloud account. If your iCloud storage is full, synchronization may fail.

Check your storage on Mac

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Click Apple ID
  3. Select iCloud
  4. Review iCloud Storage

Check your storage on iOS

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Apple ID
  3. Tap iCloud
  4. Check iCloud Storage

Requirement 4:  Ensure your devices have an internet connection

Both devices need an active internet connection so iCloud can synchronize your Typinator data.

Enabling iCloud Sync in Typinator (Mac)

Once the requirements above are fulfilled, you can enable synchronization in Typinator.

  1. Open Typinator
  2. Open Typinator Settings
  3. Select the Sync&Mobile
  4. Enable iCloud Sync

Typinator will begin uploading your abbreviation sets to iCloud. Other devices signed into the same iCloud account will automatically receive the data.

Troubleshooting

If synchronization does not start:

  • Verify iCloud Drive is enabled on all devices
  • Confirm you are logged into the same Apple ID
  • Ensure iCloud storage is not full
  • Check that both devices are connected to the internet
  • Try disabling and re-enabling iCloud Sync in Typinator

If the problem persists, please contact Typinator Support and include information about your device, macOS version, and iOS version.
