Typinator gives you powerful tools to fine-tune the behavior of each abbreviation set. With set-specific settings, you can customize how expansions work, manage sound feedback, control search visibility, and keep notes for documentation or collaboration.
How to open set settings
To access the settings for a specific set:
Open the Typinator window.
Select a set in the set list and click the “i” button located below the list of sets or right-click the set and choose "Set Info" from the context menu.
The Set Info window will appear, where you’ll find all customization options for the selected set.
Prefixes and suffixes
You can define a prefix or suffix that applies to all abbreviations in a set. This means you don’t have to manually edit each abbreviation to add or change these characters. This saves time and ensures consistency.
Example: All abbreviations in Typinator’s built-in HTML set use
<<as a prefix (e.g.,<<br).
If you prefer a different prefix, likeh-, or want to add a suffix, you can do it here—Typinator will update all entries in the set automatically.
Counting replacements
In the "Count replacements as..." section:
You can tell Typinator how to categorize expansions in that set.
This affects the feedback sound and usage statistics shown in the About window.Under Feedback Sound, you can choose a specific sound or disable it completely.
Select Default to use the sound defined in Typinator's main Preferences under Settings > Expansion.
Quick search settings
Under Include in Quick Search, you can control how this set behaves when using Typinator’s Quick Search:
Decide whether the set should appear in search results.
Define which parts of the abbreviations are searchable.
Customize the visibility of entries to streamline your workflow.
Default options for new abbreviations
The Default Options section lets you define how new abbreviations in this set should behave.
You can set the default case sensitivity and whole-word options for new entries, saving time and keeping your sets consistent.
Notes
At the bottom of the Set Info window, you’ll find a Notes field.
Use it to describe the purpose and usage of the set. This is especially useful when you plan to share the set with other Typinator users.
