Typinator gives you complete control over where your abbreviations expand.
You can turn specific sets on or off for certain applications. For example:
- Use your email signatures only in Mail
- Enable your code snippets only in Xcode
This helps you stay organized and makes sure your expansions always fit the app you’re working in.
How to Assign Sets to Applications
- Open Typinator.
- Click the application icon button below the set list.
- The first time you open this window, you’ll see one item: All Applications.
- This option lets you enable or disable sets for all apps at once.
- To add a specific application:
- Drag it from the Finder into the list, or
- Click the “+” button to add one of the apps that’s currently running.
- Once you add an app, Typinator will change “All Applications” to “All Other Applications.”
- This means the new settings now apply only to apps that are not listed separately.
- Select the app in the list and check the sets you want to enable for that app.
Helpful Notes and Tips
- Turn all sets on or off quickly:
Select the app, then click the All or None buttons below the set list. - Disable Typinator for one app:
If you turn off all sets for an app, Typinator won’t expand anything there.
This is useful for apps like coding editors, where expansions might get in the way. - Pause Typinator everywhere:
To temporarily stop Typinator, choose “Pause Expansions” from the menu.
A pause symbol appears in the menu bar.
To resume, select “Resume Expansions.” - Control automatic corrections:
You can choose where Typinator’s “DOuble CAp” correction should work.
For example, turn it off in Xcode to avoid unwanted capitalization when writing code.
